Beethoven - 9 Symphonies – Gardiner, Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique

Review:

A portrait of the thirteen-year-old Beethoven by an unknown Bonn master (c. 1783).Love it or loathe it, Sir John Eliot Gardiner's trailblazing recording of the complete Beethoven symphonies became an instant if controversial classic on its release in October 1994. Released after the critically acclaimed Norrington and Harnoncourt period intégrales, Gardiner's cycle had an edge that felt that little bit more dangerous and revolutionary. This is an excellent performance of the 9 symphonies, and each one, from the 1st through the 9th, is given thoughtful treatment. Well worth listening to.

  1. Sorry to whine, but the CDs seem to be ripped with 2 second pauses between attacca sections of the symphonies... :-(
